Painted lacquer Yu (bowl) with phoenix-and-fish pattern

Qin Dynasty (221–207 BC)

Unearthed in 1975 from Shuihudi M11, Yunmeng.

Height: 8.8 cm, mouth diameter: 29 cm, bottom diameter: 16cm.

Wooden core, made by hollowing forming. Inner bottom painted with two swimming fish and a phoenix standing on one leg. Outer bottom branded with the character “Ting”, and needle-incised with the characters “Shang Zao [...]”.
