Round painted lacquer Lian (dressing case) with cloud-and-phoenix pattern

Qin Dynasty (221–207 BC)

Unearthed in 1977 from Shuihudi M34, Yunmeng.

Height: 6.7 cm, lid diameter: 22.2 cm, bottom diameter: 21.3cm

Wooden core, made by coiling forming. Lid exterior and vessel outer wall both needle-incised with the characters “Da Nyu Zi Xiao”. Contents upon excavation: 1 bronze mirror, 1 wooden Bi(fine-toothed comb).
