Description: Carved from raw jade native to the Three Gorges region along the Yangtze River, the work depicts children setting off firecrackers in the snow during the Chinese New Year. Through the ingenious use of the stone’s natural coloration, the artist employs qiaodiao (clever carving) to transform the white parts of the jade into snow clinging to tree trunks and icicles hanging from eaves, creating a vivid winter scene. The composition conveys the auspicious sentiment that “the snow promises a bountiful year,” evoking a festive atmosphere of joy and prosperity.
