Deng Shiru (1739-1805), Clerical Script

Deng Shiru (1739-1805), originally named Yan, was also known by his zi (courtesy name) Wanbo and his hao(literary name) Wanbai Shanren. He was a native of Huaining, Anhui province. He adopted his zi as his formal name to avoid the naming taboo of Emperor Jiaqing. A preeminent master of seal carving, he drew inspiration from the traditions of the Qin and Han dynasties( (221 BC–220 AD). He is celebrated as the founder of the Deng School.
