Ye Xianggao (1559-1627), also known by his zi (courtesy name) Jinqing and his hao (literary name) Taishan, was a native of Fuqing (in present-day Fuzhou, Fujian Province). He earned the jinshi (a successful candidate in the imperial examination) degree during the Wanli reign (1573-1620) and rose to Minister of Rites and Grand Secretary of the East Hall. A man of profound erudition, he was an accomplished calligrapher and author, known for his Expositions of Categories(Shuolei).
