Ink and color on silk 293*93 cm

Lan Ying (1586-c. 1666), also known by his zi (courtesy name) Tianshu and his hao (literary names) Diesou, Shitoutuo and Xihu Yanmin, was a native of Hangzhou. He excelled in landscape painting. In his early period, his brushwork was elegant and fluid, exemplified by vivid blue-and-green landscapes executed in the boneless (mogu) technique. In his later years, his brushwork grew forceful and archaic, earning him the sobriquet “the last master of the Zhe School.” His representative works include Red Trees and Green Mountains(Hongshu qingshan tu) and Vermillion Peaks and Red Trees (Danfeng hongshu tu).
