Jiang Yujian (dates unknown), also known by his zi(courtesy name) Juting, was a native of Suizhou (in present-day Sui County, Henan province). After attaining the juren (provincial graduate) degree in 1822, he rose to the position of Vice Prefect of Jingde in Jiangxi province. A close friend of the renowned calligrapher He Shaoji, Jiang developed a calligraphic style that synthesized the vigorous character of masters Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan. He was particularly esteemed for his orchid paintings, which capture the plants in dynamic and spirited postures. His works on fans are also highly regarded for their refined taste.
