Ink on paper 124*54.5 cm

Li Shizhuo (1687-1770), also known by his zi (courtesy names) Hanzhang and Tiantao and his hao (literary names) Huzhai and Lyu Yuan, was a native of Sanhan (present-day Harqin Banner, Inner Mongolia), or by some accounts, Fengtian (modern-day Shenyang, Liaoning Province). He was of Korean descent. He served in the Court of Imperial Sacrifices (Taichang Si), and was commonly known as “Li Taichang.”In painting, he studied under Wang Hui, embodying the master's distinctive style. His flower-and-bird sketches (xiesheng) were profoundly influenced by the finger-painting technique of his maternal uncle, Gao Qipei. From these influences, he developed an individual style characterized by a unique and engaging charm.
