Qian Daxin (1728-1804), also known by his zi (courtesy names) Xiaozheng and Jizhi, and his hao(literary names) Xinmei and Zhuting Jushi (later Qianyan Laoren), was a native of Jiading (in present-day Shanghai). He first earned the recognition of Emperor Qianlong with his Rhapsody on the Hidden Jade at the Imperial Examination(Yushi Yunyu Fu) and was bestowed the juren degree (provincial graduate). He later attained the jinshi degree (a successful candidate in the imperial examination) and served as an imperial examiner for provincial examinations in Zhejiang and other provinces. He is the author of Collected Works from the Qianyantang Studio(Qianyantang Wenji).
